Medan, June 2026 – The English Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU), held a Farewell Party to honor Regional English Language Office (RELO) instructor William Vickery for his valuable contributions throughout the RELO Program 2026.
The RELO Program 2026 was conducted from February to June 2026 through a collaboration involving Universitas Islam Negeri Sumatera Utara (UINSU) and the English Education Study Program of FKIP UMSU. During the program, William Vickery taught TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) and Speaking in Professional Context, providing students with a unique opportunity to learn directly from a native English-speaking instructor from the United States.
The farewell event was organized as a gesture of appreciation for William Vickery and RELO for their significant contributions to English language education. Through this program, students gained firsthand exposure not only to authentic English language use but also to teaching methodologies and pedagogical practices from an international perspective.
The event was conducted in a warm and joyful atmosphere, bringing together faculty leaders, lecturers, and students who shared their memorable experiences and expressed their gratitude for the learning opportunities provided during the program.
Speaking on behalf of the English Education Study Program, the Head of the Study Program, Dr. Pirman Ginting, S.Pd., M.Hum., accompanied by the Secretary of the Study Program, Selamat Husni Hasibuan, Ph.D., expressed sincere appreciation to William Vickery and RELO for their commitment to supporting English language education.
“We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Mr. William Vickery and RELO for their remarkable contribution to our students’ learning experiences. His presence has provided authentic learning opportunities, allowing students to interact directly with a native English speaker. Beyond language development, our students have also gained valuable insights into English language teaching practices from a global perspective,” said Dr. Pirman Ginting.
He further emphasized the importance of sustaining similar international collaborations in the future.
“This program aligns closely with our commitment to internationalizing the English Education Study Program. We hope that collaborations with RELO and other international partners will continue to grow, enabling more students to benefit from globally enriched academic experiences,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Dean of FKIP UMSU, Dra. Hj. Syamsuyurnita, M.Pd., also conveyed her appreciation for the successful implementation of the program and the contributions made by William Vickery.
“We highly appreciate Mr. William Vickery’s dedication throughout his engagement with our students and academic community. His presence demonstrates the value of international collaboration in enhancing the quality of higher education. We hope that the positive experiences and partnerships established through this program will serve as a foundation for broader collaborations in the future,” she stated.

Throughout the RELO Program 2026, students were given valuable opportunities to strengthen their English proficiency, particularly in the areas of English language teaching and professional communication. Learning directly from a native English-speaking instructor also helped students develop greater confidence in using English in both academic and professional settings.
The Farewell Party not only celebrated William Vickery’s contributions but also reaffirmed the commitment of the English Education Study Program of FKIP UMSU to providing internationally oriented learning experiences and preparing students to thrive in an increasingly globalized world.
