National Mathematics and Applied Seminar “SIMANTAP” at UMSU

MATHEMATICS ARE IMPORTANT AT THE “DISRUPTION” ERA
Mathematics, as a basic and applied science, is one of the disciplines that is increasingly being realized as needed as a need to fill the space in the development of the extraordinary Revolution 4.0 or disruption era.

As stated by the Chancellor of North Sumatra Muhammadiyah University, Dr. Agussani, MAP through WR 3, Dr. Rudianto MSi while giving a speech while opening the National Mathematics and Applied Seminar (SIMANTAP) 9 2018 at the UMSU Main Campus Hall, Jalan Kapten Mukhtar Basri Medan on Wednesday (28 / 11/2018).

In the seminar which raised the theme ‘Mathematic for Smart Learning’ and was attended by hundreds of students from a number of universities in North Sumatra, Rudianto explained, that the competitiveness of the nation was determined by how much we were able to master exact fields, especially basic fields, including mathematics.

Therefore, said Rudianto, not to overdo a college must be colored by the many scientist-mathematicians who are expected to be able to excel and raise the reputation of their universities. “So that mathematics is increasingly in demand as a basic and applied science in Indonesia,” he said.

With the topic of the seminar initiated by the committee, he was sure to contribute to all parties involved and participate in the activity.

For UMSU itself, said Rudianto, of course this activity is very important and very strategic, because one of the things that is key for UMSU in carrying out its education is to develop a nation’s civilization. “Among them is by developing technology science,” he said.

According to him, one of the science and technology development efforts is to develop the science of mathematics education. The way to develop science and technology can be through shering, discussion, seminars and sitting with the spells of those who are interested and interested in the same sciences. “That’s why I believe today’s meeting will be a new milestone for the development of mathematics,” said Rudianto.

Rudianto further explained, in the midst of the development of information technology today, there is what is called the MOOC or a massive open online course. Surely this is a challenge as well as an opportunity that must be utilized, especially for mathematical scientists, how can the mathematics be used quickly and precisely. “This is certainly very important and useful, so it is very appropriate to be the material that will also be discussed in our seminar today, such as mathematic-competation, information-system and mathematic-education,” he said.

Related to this, continued Rudianto, it is certainly very interesting to observe the presence of smart applications such as “Teacher’s Room” which can make people understand mathematics much easier than conventional learning methods like in the classroom. “In a short time, if a student opens the topic material at night to be discussed tomorrow, the application of the Teacher’s Room can guarantee that the students will be better prepared and even the smartest students in their class,” he said.

From that, he hopes that mathematical scientists can build commitment so that the challenges are not a scourge, but instead become an opportunity for all HR outputs and products from mathematics to be able to utilize the MOOC.

The seminar activity initiated by the Indonesian Mathematical Society (Indo Mathematical Society / Indo MS) of North Sumatra presents a number of Keynote Speakers, including Prof. Dr. Fritz van Beckum (University of Twente Netherland), Dr. Rhonda Faragher (University Queensland Australian), Dr Suryati Sitepu (HKBP Nomensen University) and Dr. Zainal Azis (UMSU).

The seminar was also coupled with the IndoMS Aceh-North Sumatra Regional Deliberation activities. (RSFN)
