Medan, Indonesia – 24 July 2026 – The Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) of Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU), in collaboration with the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training (FTIK) of UIN Sultanah Nahrasiyah Lhokseumawe, successfully organized The 2nd International Conference on English Teaching and Linguistics (ICoETLin) and The 2nd International Conference on Education on 23–24 July 2026 at the UMSU Auditorium, Medan, in a hybrid format. The conference attracted hundreds of onsite and online participants from various universities and institutions, bringing together academics, researchers, educators, practitioners, and students from Indonesia and several other countries.

Under the theme “Human-Centered Innovation for Education and Society in the Era of Artificial Intelligence,” the conference served as an international platform for exchanging ideas, presenting research findings, and fostering collaboration on contemporary issues in education, language studies, technology, artificial intelligence, humanities, and social sciences. The event also reaffirmed the shared commitment of FKIP UMSU and FTIK UIN Sultanah Nahrasiyah to promoting academic excellence and expanding international partnerships.
The conference featured an impressive lineup of international keynote speakers from India, Malaysia, the Philippines, Pakistan, Russia, and Indonesia, who shared their expertise on emerging educational trends and global challenges. In addition, distinguished plenary speakers from leading universities enriched the conference through insightful presentations and interactive discussions, providing participants with valuable perspectives on innovative teaching, research, and educational transformation in the era of Artificial Intelligence.
The English Education Department (PBI), FKIP UMSU, made a remarkable contribution to the success of the conference. Demonstrating its commitment to internationalization and academic excellence, the department actively participated through its lecturers and students in various strategic roles throughout the event.
Among the department’s most significant contributions, Dr. Hj. Dewi Kesuma Nasution, S.S., M.Hum., Vice Dean I of FKIP UMSU and Chairperson of the Conference, and Selamat Husni Hasibuan, Ph.D., lecturer of the English Education Department, were invited as Plenary Speakers. During their plenary sessions, both speakers delivered thought-provoking presentations that generated engaging discussions and offered valuable insights into contemporary issues in education, English language teaching, critical approaches to learning, and innovation in the age of Artificial Intelligence.

Beyond these prestigious roles, lecturers from the English Education Department also contributed as presenters, moderators, reviewers, and conference participants, reflecting the department’s strong engagement in international academic discourse. Equally noteworthy was the active involvement of English Education students, who served as members of the organizing committee and Liaison Officers (LOs). Their professionalism, hospitality, and dedication ensured the smooth coordination of conference activities while assisting keynote speakers, plenary speakers, presenters, and participants throughout the two-day event.
Dean of FKIP UMSU, Dra. Hj. Syamsuyurnita, M.Pd., expressed her appreciation for the successful collaboration between the two institutions.

Meanwhile, Dr. Hj. Dewi Kesuma Nasution, S.S., M.Hum., Chairperson of the Conference and Vice Dean I of FKIP UMSU, highlighted the importance of collaboration in organizing an international academic event.

The Head of the English Education Department, Dr. Pirman Ginting, M.Hum., also expressed his pride in the department’s outstanding contribution.

Dewi Kesuma Nasution, M.Hum., and Selamat Husni Hasibuan, Ph.D., were entrusted as Plenary Speakers, representing the academic strength of our department before an international audience. At the same time, many of our lecturers actively participated as presenters, moderators, reviewers, and participants, while our students demonstrated remarkable professionalism as members of the organizing committee and Liaison Officers.
